Frequently Asked Questions
What services do you offer?Although weddings, birthday, and funerals are our bread and butter, we offer a full spectrum of bespoke musical services, tailored to your vision. From the most refined string quartets to private performances by TONY award-winning artists, each experience is thoughtfully curated with the highest level of artistry. We can assemble an orchestra to accompany you, create custom arrangements, bring together Broadway pit musicians for a recording at the renowned Power Station, or produce an eventing at 54 Below featuring you. These are just a few of the experiences we’ve had the privilege to create - the possibilities are expansive, and we would be delighted to bring your vision to life.
How do I get started?Getting started in easy - simply reach out through our contact form to schedule a call. Steven or Ray will connect with you directly, walk you through the next steps, and answer any questions along the way. We look forward to learning more about your event and how we can help bring it to life.
How involved would you like to be in selecting the music? As little or as much as you’d like. Whether you prefer to choose just a few key moments - like your processional or first dance - or curate the entire set list, we’re here to support your vision. If you’d rather leave it in our hands, we’re equally happy to design the music for your entire event. The choice is entirely yours.
How is the music timed for the wedding processional? At the request of the wedding party, we often attend the rehearsal to carefully map out the timing of each entrance. We coordinate closely with your planner - or with our own show runner - to ensure every cue is precisely aligned, from each member of the wedding party to the transitions between pieces, creating a seamless and beautifully paced processional.
Are you experienced with and comfortable performing at weddings of different religious traditions? We are experienced in a wide range of religious traditions and are always respectful of each ceremony’s unique customs and requirements. Whether you are planning a traditional mass or liturgy, or something more flexible and personalized, we are well versed in both sacred and secular repertoire.
Steven served for many years as a church organist and choir director, and Ray was raised Catholic, giving us a strong foundation in liturgical music. We have also had the privilege of performing at numerous Jewish weddings throughout New York. Our roster reflects a wide range of faiths and backgrounds, allowing us to thoughtfully select musicians who are well suited to your ceremony. We also take care to research and prepare in advance. Please also educate us, ensuring everything is handled with authenticity and sensitivity.
Do you provide all sound and performance equipment? For live performances, we provide our own instruments (except piano) and music stands. For jazz ensembles, we can also supply select amplification and basic sound equipment as appropriate for the venue and performance setup. We are always happy to collaborate with your venue and any on-site sound team to ensure everything runs seamlessly.
For clients requesting audio and video recording, Steven Ray Artists oversees every aspect - from equipment and music rights to engineering and post-production - delivering a fully realized final product.
Do you collaborate well with wedding planners and other vendors?Steven Ray Artists was born from years of working alongside leading event planners and recognizing the need for a trusted, dedicated source for exceptional musicians. As performers ourselves, collaboration is second nature. We understand the many moving parts behind a seamless event and take great pride in contributing to its success.
